Standing water after rainfall can be a real problem for many Florida homeowners. Deep or boggy water can be dangerous to people, pets and livestock. It is also detrimental to the underlying vegetation in many cases and interferes with landscape design. If the standing water is in an area of the yard that must be walked through, such as where vehicles are parked, it can be very inconvenient and create a mess. There are many reasons why standing water after rainfall can create problems for property owners. Fortunately, there are many ways PLC Tree Service can help solve water drainage problems on most properties.
Standing Water on Property
One option for draining excess water which may collect in inconvenient areas of your property is to add a drainpipe underground. We install a grated catch basin (as pictured above) in the problematic area of your property to collect the water. The top of this sits flush with your land and can easily be mowed over. A drainpipe (perforated or non-perforated) is attached to the catch basin and runs underground to carry the water away. Wherever you decide to release the water, a pop-up emitter is attached and the remaining water is released there. This emitter sits flush with the surface of your property when it is not discharging water.
A french drain system is one way to drain excess water from areas of your property. Before digging, we work with you to plan a site for the drain and make sure it's a safe area to dig. We then dig a trench line, adjusting the depth to create a slight downhill slope so the water will flow. We add some landscape fabric and drainage gravel to the floor of the open tunnel. We insert a perforated tube and cover with more drainage gravel and landscape fabric. Alternatively, we can install a prefabricated french drain system as pictured above. Both options allow water to seep out slowly and disperse underground. We then cover the trench line.
Creating a gentle slope to redirect water is a good solution for land drainage problems for many homeowners. At PLC Tree Service, we have the knowledge and equipment necessary to change the surface and slope of your property so that water will no longer collect in an undesirable location. We can grade your property and add fill dirt where it's needed to create the perfect pathway for water to flow. We can also replace dense soil for more porous types of soil that will drain more efficiently. These options can keep the water from collecting in inconvenient areas of your property and allow you to choose where the water should flow.
A dry well is a tank, barrel or other type of container that acts as a temporary reservoir for excess water. Like a french drain, it is perforated and surrounded by landscape gravel. This allows water to seep out slowly, giving it a chance to evaporate underground instead of collecting on the surface. PLC Tree Service can create a personalized dry well for you and install it to help you solve the problem of standing water on your property.
Get creative and add beauty to your property by adding a creek bed. You can cleverly redirect water while adding a stunning and unique landscape enhancement. PLC Tree Service can grade areas of your property and add fill dirt where needed to create the gently sloping pathway on which you desire the water to flow. We work with you to design your unique creek bed and then we install it. The creek bed will be beautiful, wet or dry.
Like a creek bed, a rain garden is an option that can add beauty and tranquility to your property as well as solving a water drainage problem. If the water is collecting in an inconvenient location for a rain garden, we can first redirect the water by changing the slope of the terrain. We will work with you to design this personalized landscape gem. We can then professionally install your one of a kind rain garden using plants and landscape rocks of your choosing.
